Dee Sutton is an Americana singer-songwriter from West Michigan, whose eclectic sound blends a rich tapestry of musical genres and cultural influences from the salty swing of gypsy jazz to the old timey bounce of traditional American country swing music. Sutton weaves them all together into infectious rhythms that create a sound that is uniquely her own.
Dee’s music feels like a conversation with an old friend—familiar yet constantly shifting with new textures and storytelling perspectives. Her songs transport listeners across time and space, capturing the heart of a world steeped in tradition while pushing the boundaries of genre. With a voice that’s both sultry and evocative, Dee Sutton’s music is for the traveler, the dreamer, the loner and the lover. Dee’s songwriting was globally recognized in 2011 with her former band’s debut album, Midnight Cattle Callers being named “Album of the Month” by Country Music Magazine, setting the scene for Dee’s ascent int the Americana scene. Her song, “Ramblin’ Cat,” was nominated for Song of the Year at WYCE's Jammie Awards, where Dee and her band were also nominated for Best Female Vocalist of the Year, Album of the Year, Best New Americana Album, Producer of the Year, and Listener’s Choice Award.
Dee’s captivating performances soon found her sharing stages with renowned acts such as Peter Rowan, The Steeldrivers, and Wayne Hancock quickly establishing Dee as a prominent figure in Michigan’s vibrant music community.
In 2014, Dee released her second album with Midnight Cattle Callers, Aloha to the Stars, before taking a hiatus to focus on her family and serve her community through social work. Now, Dee is re-emerging with a new album set for release in Spring 2025, bringing her signature blend of Americana influences to a new generation of listeners! Dee is available for booking with her new band, Sweet Dee & the Wild Honeys.
Through it all, Dee’s commitment to authentic songwriting and her genuine passion for music continue to shine brightly.
Sallie is a bass player that loves what she does. Music is dance is art is life, and Sallie tries to
embody this with every note and phrase. She’s been playing bass since 6th grade, when her
public school orchestra program began. Most of her musical life was based in classical music,
and she has played with various symphony orchestras in her homestate of Georgia, and the
West Michigan Symphony here in Michigan, as well as many other small chamber groups. Sallie
loves to play all kinds of music, and recently has been exploring more jazz, bluegrass, folk, and
honky tonk. Current projects include playing with the Michigan Mandolin Orchestra, and duo
shows with husband and mandolinist Brian Oberlin. Recent highlights have been playing for the
Tenor Guitar Gathering in Astoria, Oregon, and joining Sweet Dee and The Wild Honeys.
Keala is a multi-instrumentalist who plays fiddle, guitar, tin whistle and Bodhran, the Irish drum. She has grown up playing in Irish and Bluegrass sessions for years and grew up being in bands such as Circling Shannon or The Barley Saints. She is a graduate from the Michigan Academy of Folk Music and now aspires to build community around the fiddle. She is the lead fiddle instructor at Michigan Academy of Folk Music as well as at Triumph Music Academy. In addition to her private teaching work, she has assisted or led fiddle string clinics for Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp, Great Lakes Music Camp Youth Academy, or with local youth orchestras. Her playing experiences draw from the opportunity to jam and attend fiddle camps across the country with Grammy award winning or nominated artists such as Jeremy Kittel, Darol Anger, David Greely and John Reischman, and now is a fiddle force in the Grand Rapids music scene playing music with world folk band, Whorled, jazz fusion band Candid Antics or occasionally filling in for folk acts Roosevelt Diggs, Hawks and Owls String Band, or Ben Traverse.
In addition to music, Keala enjoys painting, making a good cappuccino and hanging out with her two parrots.
